VdFS & Diagonale 2026

As it does every year, the VdFS played an active role at Diagonale.
From providing financial support (structural funding) and sponsoring awards to actively promoting emerging filmmakers, the VdFS was represented in Graz in a variety of ways.

As part of its efforts to support emerging talent, students from various universities in Austria are traditionally invited to travel to the Diagonale to familiarize themselves with the industry, network, attend events, and participate in numerous screenings.
Together with Kristina Sprenger, Michael Kreihsl, and Thomas Oláh from the VdFS committees and part of the VdFS team, 17 students specializing in film and 6 BMWKMS Start grant recipients were guests in Graz this year.

The Grand Diagonale Acting Award 2026 was presented to Hilde Dalik during the opening ceremony. We are particularly pleased to once again sponsor this award for contributions to Austrian film culture and extend our warmest congratulations to Hilde Dalik on this honor!

At the Diagonale Awards ceremony, the VdFS was represented by board member Christine Ludwig and VdFS beneficiary representative Liliana Nelska. This year, they presented the prizes sponsored by the VdFS to the winners.
In keeping with tradition, in addition to the Grand Diagonale Acting Award, the VdFS also sponsors the Diagonale Awards for Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, and Sound Design, as well as the Diagonale Acting Awards, in order to honor the outstanding achievements of Austrian filmmakers.
