VdFS supports the following film festivals and events:
The festival of national and international independent film presents carefully selected short, feature-length and documentary films.
Cinema Talks is an innovative and young film festival that entered its second round in 2020. Up to 30 national and international short films will be presented - packed into four categories: Social, Extraordinary, Entertainment and Inspiration.
Over the five days of the festival, around 60 national and international feature films, documentaries and short films - including numerous Austrian premieres - invite audiences to approach the ever-topical subject of home from different perspectives and to engage intensively with it.
DIAMETRALE is a platform for (inter)national filmmakers who stand out for their experimental approach and interest in the comic. Following the motto "useless and beautiful", the festival strengthens films that defy common attributions and are resistant thanks to comic, absurd, humorous methods.
The dotdotdot short film festival spreads a relaxed open air atmosphere in summer. Handpicked short and medium-length films are on the program when the Volkskundemuseum Wien turns into the festival center of dotdotdot.
In the Ethnocineca - Online Edition 2020, eight documentary films could be viewed online over eight days. They are Austrian premieres and a curated selection from the originally planned festival program.

Instant36 - Das Stegreif Filmfestival - Drehwochenende & Screening
Instant36 is an open festival for film enthusiasts, where participants take on the challenge of making a short film within 36 hours. Fiction, documentary or animation - all forms are allowed. Three weeks after the competition, the screening takes place at ARGE Kultur Salzburg.

The International Human Rights Film Festival is held annually in Vienna under the banner of human rights. UNDOX - Internationales Festival der innovativen Dokumentarfilmkunst
The festival is dedicated to innovative documentary film art. Only films that distinguish themselves through novel approaches and that break new ground in terms of production and narrative methods are honored.

VIS Vienna Shorts - Online Edition
Short and Good! Vienna Shorts is dedicated to the short format. The program includes short and animated films as well as music videos.
The traveling film festival plays numerous venues throughout Vienna during the summer months. The film program of the city's oldest open-air cinema includes a wide selection of current, explosive and successful documentaries, short films, music and feature films.
Austria's largest international youth media festival in Wels invites young filmmakers to exciting film screenings and a colorful supporting program. The core of the festival is the International Film Competition, which annually features around 80 short films by young directors between the ages of 10 and 26.
zeitimpuls shortfilm - digital version
Social commitment in short film - that's what zeitimpuls shortfilm stands for! The festival offers a varied program for all age groups and spans a range from the play with fear in terror reporting to visions of democratic dialogue and the basic values of our society, human rights.
Since 2005, the festival has been dedicated entirely to animated film. The focus is on the claim to present the genre in its entirety.

Cinema Next
Making young Austrian film and its talents visible. The young talent initiative Cinema Next - Young Cinema from Austria has been dedicated to this since 2011. Happy 10th Birthday!
Diverse Geschichten - Szenische Lesung
Diverse Geschichten is aimed at screenwriters with an intercultural background. It was initiated to provide the best possible dramaturgical and practical support for both up-and-coming talents and professional writers.
DREHÜBUNG l Wien
In addition to offering training and continuing education opportunities, Drehübung l Wien sees itself as a platform, hub and place of exchange for young actors and actresses, where the focus is on content and quality.
EU–Jugendkino #humanrights
The EU Youth Cinema, initiated in the run-up to the last European elections, dedicates its latest edition to the topic of #humanrights. In its current edition, it makes an important contribution to the democratic understanding of human rights and sensitizes young people to diverse aspects around the focus.
EU XXL - Forum und Festival des europäischen Films
A forum for the promotion, mediation and dissemination of European film as well as an interface for the various aspects of film - that is the EU XXL FILM initiative, launched in 2003.
FC Gloria - Frauen Vernetzung Film
FC Gloria was founded in 2010 and is committed to women from various areas of the film industry. The vision is to represent the diversity of society in front of and behind the camera.
ONE WORLD FILMCLUBS
Since fall 2011, young people throughout Austria have independently founded film clubs at regular intervals as part of this initiative and organized numerous film screenings for their peers. The films shown deal with topics such as human rights, equality, the environment and racism.
Schule Friedl Kubelka für unabhängigen Film
The Friedl Kubelka School for Independent Film was founded in 2006. It promotes aspiring filmmakers and offers exchange, teaching and further education with renowned national and international film artists.
Stoffentwicklungsprogramm scriptLAB docu
The goal of scriptLAB docu is to support documentary directors in the early stages of developing material and concepts for feature-length cinema documentaries. The program includes dramaturgical support as well as financial support.
#we_do!
With #we_do!, the Austrian Filmmakers are creating a point of contact and advice against discrimination and unequal treatment, abuse of power, sexual assault and violations of labor law - for everyone working in the Austrian film and television industry.
